Formula E: One Hell of a Ride

The countdown has officially begun for the first Asian round in Season 5, in what shapes to be another highly contested weekend of close-combat ABB FIA Formula E Championship street racing in downtown Hong Kong! After last year’s spectacular season opener, the city’s iconic Harbourfront will once again host 22 of the world’s best Formula E drivers on March 10, all going head to head and wheel-to-wheel in close concrete combat.

The first Asian round in Season 5, the 1.85km circuit will see the drivers rip around famous landmarks including the International Finance Centre, Hong Kong Observation Wheel and Hong Kong City Hall. The new Batmobile-esque all-electric Gen2 cars have double the energy storage capacity of the Gen1 car, meaning it can complete a whole race without the need for mid-race car swaps. With 250kW of power, the Gen2 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 2.8-seconds and reach a top speed of 280km/h. With faster cars, greater thrills and just one car per driver – powered by pure electricity – that means there’s a lot more at stake!

With a total of 13 races in 12 cities spread across five continents, and the first four races this season producing four different winners from four different teams, a win in Hong Kong is open to anyone, which makes Formula E one of the most unpredictable sporting series on the planet. But if there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that you should expect the unexpected!
