Savour the Final Sips of Rare, Vintage Wines at Mister Percy’s Uncorked

Wine enthusiasts rejoice! Whether your trained, sommelier taste buds are seeking out brilliant wines or you’re new to the wine game, eager to learn more about unique and unusual grapes, Mister Percy will soon be answering your prayers.

This month, Pyrmont’s favourite wine bar is unveiling Uncorked Wednesdays, a fortnightly wine tasting experience offering up two glasses of rare, unusual, vintage and boutique wines from the depths of Mister Percy’s private collection. Chef Luca Guiotto will be serving up six perfectly paired aperitivi alongside these special wines, crafting a heightened food and wine matching experience.

Unwind after a long, dreary midweek workday with remarkable wines paired with heartwarming Italian fare. You can settle into Mister Percy’s plush couches and softly lit ambiance with a few glasses of vino, ultimately raising the bar on afterwork drinks with a modern interpretation of aperitivo, aka Italian happy hour.

Cin cin with Mister Percy and their remarkable collection of rare, vintage wines!

Nestled in the historic heart of Pyrmont, you’ll find the friendly neighbourhood wine bar Mister Percy, set a stone’s throw away from Darling Harbour. Housed within a historic wool store, Mister Percy offers an escapist, ever-pouring refuge from Sydney’s bustling streets. They proudly serve a thoughtful collection of boutique and local wines, handpicked from Australia and the far reaches of the Mediterranean. Lucky for us, their new biweekly tasting experience offers an even more intimate opportunity to crack open rare bottles from their cellar and explore undiscovered flavours by the glass.

We’ve heard through the grapevine that Mister Percy is launching Uncorked with a handful of remarkable vintage wines that are quite literally the last of their kind. The wine-loving team behind Mister Percy’s vino collection managed to acquire a few bottles of 2014 Torbreck ‘The Celts’, a hard-to-find vintage red magnum that can only be purchased in Barossa Valley at the vineyard’s cellar. Additionally, winemaking duo behind ‘The Celts’ swore to never make wine again after this harvest was processed. A visit to Mister Percy during Uncorked may be your only chance to ever taste this renowned full-bodied red wine as stocks are dwindling to a point of no return. In fact, 2014 was the last year this wine was ever produced!

While a typical Italian aperitivo experience entails a glass of wine or aperol spritz served alongside some light nibbles, like seasoned olives or bruschetta, Mister Percy wanted to create a slightly more refined, unique afterwork drinking. Alongside exceptional, unusual wines, Head Chef Luca Guiotto will serve six different aperitivi bites that are designed to enhance the wine-tasting experience. At this Sydney aperitivio hour, no two food and wine pairing menus will be alike!

Inspired by the Mediterranean region’s fiery passion for profound quality and character, Chef Luca Guiotto pairs all of Mister Percy’s fine wines and spirited twists on cocktail classics with an ever-changing array of seasonally-inspired Italian fare. Remarkable local cheeses, rich handmade pastas and a generations-old tiramisu recipe are some of many highlights from Mister Percy’s dining experience; however, you’ll swoon over Chef Luca’s ever-changing array of small plate aperitivi, which shine with Uncorked’s food and wine matching.

From melt-in-your-mouth Arancini Pizzaiola and Watermelon paired with heirloom tomato and black garlic to Moreton Bay Bugs served on a stick with a rich, Salmoriglio sauce, and Blue Swimmer Crab Salad served on crisped brioche with Togarashi pepper and finger lime, these contemporary aperitivi bites feature fresh regional produce transformed with Mediterranean flavours. Of course, the Mister Percy staff are always happy to offer additional wine pairing wisdom if you choose to design your dining experience around a particular dish on the menu.
