Night at the (prison turned) Museum

Ovolo Hotels

Long ago the name “Tai Kwun” would make people shudder, but in 2018, Tai Kwun is the next big hangout at the heart of the 852! Looming high above the Central business district, the former Central Police Headquarters sits as a reminder that crime does not pay. Since the prison’s closure in 2009, the compound has gone under a major facelift – the restoration of 16 historic buildings and the addition of two new ones!

Tai Kwun is now all set to wow the crowds as the Centre for Heritage and Arts. Here are our top tips on what to do when you get there:

Travel through time

More than 170 years of history are hidden behind these walls! Take an interactive tour or simply explore the numerous buildings and Victorian passageways to unlock stories about the heritage space.

Caught on ART!

Check out the latest exhibitions and galleries to find out more about the local contemporary art scene in Hong Kong.

It’s showtime!

Theatre buffs are going to have their hands full with all the drama at Tai Kwun. Plays, dance performances, and movie screenings – there is something for everyone. Shake things up during your lunch hour and enjoy the special lunch productions at 12:45pm and 1:45pm.

Relax with a cup of tea… or coffee

Immerse yourself in a local traditional tea tasting and choose from dozens of brews at the LockCha Tea House. Coffee beans, you need not worry! Indulge in your favourite pastime and enjoy a casual rendezvous at Café Claudel.
