Performing Society

If you’re in a mood for some thought-provoking art, the JC Contemporary gallery at Tai Kwun has something for you! Performing Society: The Violence of Gender is an influential group exhibition that examines the underlying structural violence in issues related to the body, gender, sexuality, identity and behaviour. After the show, hop across the street for some wine at VEDA to ponder the new ideas and awareness that this show brings to the table.

This exhibition involves numerous artists who take part in creating works across a range of art forms. The goal of the artists is to determine the symbolic castration of women and to regain the capabilities essentially denied to them. You’ll see examples of pieces ranging from giant models of breasts to crass-like animations. The show promises to have audiences rethink the correlation between gender and violence.

You can visit the exhibition until 28 April from11am – 7pm daily, open until 9pm on Fridays. Price is free of charge. Please note that the show is restricted to persons aged 18 and above only, due to the sexually explicit and potentially disturbing content.
