Staying Relaxed at Work

Hannah Scott Bio
Hannah Scott- Laziest Workaholic

Moving countries is an overwhelming experience from simply packing, to finding a new place to live and leaving everything you know behind. Here are five things you should do to help stay sane once you arrive somewhere new.

Work can be stressful. Dealing with people and colleagues you have to endure, chasing deadlines and constantly watching over your shoulder for your boss is not an environment conducive for relaxation. If you are relaxed the quality of work goes up, pressure comes off and you are able to deal with situations that arise with a clear head. So here are my 5 tips for staying relaxed at work.

Know your limit

If you’re being pushed around by your boss or just having a bad day, know when you are reaching the point where you won’t be able to be productive. You don’t want to pass that point if you can avoid it.

Take a 5 minute break

Go make a tea or coffee and just pause for a moment before you walk back to your desk. A moment reprieve is sometimes all you need.

Stretch

Seems obvious right? Remembering to do it is another thing. A reminder on your phone might help. Stretch your legs out at your desk, gently twist from side to side and stretch your arms above your head. After a while it will just become habit and it only takes a few seconds each time.

Listen to music

If you are lucky enough to be at a job where you can wear headphone without it impacting your work, you should take advantage. Feeling annoyed? Listen to an upbeat song. It can help break the cycle if you can bop your head to the beat.

Get some fresh air

If smokers can take breaks, you should be able to step outside for a few minutes. Take a few deep breaths before getting back to work. Your mind and your lungs will thank you. (Just don’t join the smokers if you want fresh air.)
