‘Wine and Shine’ Series

1. What’s the wine of the month at Monster and why did you choose it?
At Monster we call it MONSTER ROGUE Wine! This month it’s Nick Spencer!
Nick Spencer Wine is a small Canberra based wine company striving to produce outstanding, handcrafted wines that speak ‘sense of place’ for the modern palate! He (Nick Spencer) is incredibly passionate & quality resonates in his wines. Nick has received accolade after accolade! Winning the 2009 Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, The National Trophy for Best Shiraz in 2011, as a Len Evans Tutorial Scholar in 2011, Finalist in the Gourmet Traveller Winemaker in 2014 just to name a few…
If I had to pick one of his wines it would have to be 2018 Nick Spencer Gundagai Red Blend, Gundagai, NSW! Made from a glorious blend of Shiraz, Touriga, Tempranillo, & Cabernet.
2. Describe this wine in three words?
Can I get 5 words? Bright Juicy Blue Fruited Firecracker!
3. You’ve opened the bottle of wine, what would you order?
Monster’s spiced lamb ribs with curry leaves, chilli jam & lime are to kill for & pairs incredibly with the Nick’s Red Blend! I am getting super hungry thinking about it…
4. Give us a fun fact about where the wine originated? Like the winery or vineyard?
Nick’s Red Blend (Dry Red) was inspired by Bordeaux! But flipping the configuration & bringing it into modern Australian context!
5. You’re trying to impress your date, what would you say about the wine?
No need to say anything. Just pour & taste. Fireworks. 😉
