October 1st is World Vegetarian Day, which kicks off Vegetarian Awareness Month – but at Ovolo we love veggies so much, we devote our whole year to them!

In honour of the vibrant veg and in keeping with the hottest food trend in Hong Kong right now, we are bringing Tel Aviv to the fragrant harbour for October, with VEDA at Ovolo Central and TQM at The Sheung Wan both hosting Middle Eastern pop-up activations from celebrated restaurants ZA ZA TA and KAZBA in Australia.

KAZBA x TQM Pita Pop-Up will open from 1 – 14th October, paying homage to flavoursome Middle Eastern street food. Dive into stuffed pitas including a plant-based Spiced Kofta Pita with spicy tomato, yoghurt, tabbouleh, baba ghanoush, sumac and onions; or a Cheeseburger Pita made with vegetarian Bloom Providore patty, cheddar, toum, tomato, cos lettuce, cucumber and pickles. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in the bustling bazaars of Tel Aviv, where the smell of charcoal fills the air and twisting alleyways buzz with conversation and music.

Meanwhile, from 15 – 31 October at VEDA, you can indulge in a soulful blend of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine courtesy of ZA ZA TA, Brisbane’s most popular vegan/vegetarian restaurant. Sample delicious Zucchini Baba with pistachio and green olive, tuck into mouth-watering Cauliflower Shwarma Amba Laban with green mango and curry leaf, or Israeli couscous served with eggplant and kashkaval. Vegetarian and plant-based ingredients will be brought to life with traditional spices and cooking methods to present earthy flavours that zing on the tongue. Israel is known for its fresh, vibrant cuisine and the dishes here are bright in both colour and flavour, a treat for all the senses.

At Ovolo we love to combine cultures and cuisines and introduce our guests to exotic new flavours to broaden their horizons. Add in our devotion to food from the earth, and you will find dishes that are rich in flavour and good for the planet. At a time when flying is still difficult for many Hong Konger’s, this is the perfect way to travel the world without leaving the city.

All Ovolo’s kitchens not only care for the planet and people by being plant-forward, but we are also committed to reducing our waste, using sustainable ingredients, and sourcing locally wherever possible.

We love vegetables because we love our guests. A diet rich in fruit and vegetables is not only kind to the planet, but also kind to your body, helping you live longer, and healthier and with glowing skin! Bringing a modern take on centuries-old dishes that burst with flavour, these pop-up activations will show you that plant-based diets are not only colourful and diverse, but delicious and bursting in flavour!

More than ever, our guests want to be conscious of what they are consuming and at Ovolo, we are committed to keeping things interesting while treating the environment with love and respect.

We also don’t forget the fabulous fruits, so you can wash all this creative and conscious cuisine down with the humble grape juice, otherwise known as wine and make sure to savour it all with friends and family. After all, that is what Ovolo dining is all about – celebrating moments with loved ones while showing your love for the planet!
