Hong Kong Veggie Trails – off-route vegetarian restaurants you must eat in:
The herbivores seem to have taken over this city! From Veggie Mondays to bars offering vegetarian items on their menu (checkout the delicious veggie canapés @topiary), Hong Kong’s palate is getting greener. As veggie options are growing, a veg-only restaurant is not a new concept anymore. However, the veggie loving foodie in me has travelled far and wide, in search of those soul stirring, enticing plates of gratifying deliciousness. Tucked away in far corners, hidden away in small streets, I am on a mission to find them all. Here are a few you ‘must’ eat in:
Kadoorie Farm Restaurant
Inside the Kadoorie Farm, Lam Kam Road, Lam Tsuen, Tai Po
What better way could there be to get the best farm-to-table food! This small open-kitchen, garden restaurant at the entrance of the amazing organic farm offers simple yet heavenly food that is prepared from fresh ingredients grown on the farm itself. All you need is a beautiful day, a fellow foodie and a ride all the way to Tai Po to delight your taste buds.
Ten Thousand Buddha
220 Pai Tau Village, Sha Tin
God does speak through food! Buddhist restaurants are famous for their delectable menu with yummy mock-meats and that spiritual touch. Adding on to that heavenly experience is a splendid view of the lush green ShaTin, an absolute treat for all the senses. Hike up to the temple and enjoy the dainty retreat.
Sharmaji
Shop A, G/F, Block 2, Hung Hom Garden, 3 Tsing Chau Street, Hung Hom
Everyone loves Indian food and HK has plenty to offer. However this small fast food joint in Hung Hom was a total surprise. It is like being teleported to a small town dhaba in Punjab. Authentic recipes, no fancy twists, just good old home-cooked Indian food as if straight from my grandma’s fragrant kitchen.
My quest is still on. Share your favorite veggie places in Hong Kong with us!
