Hong Kong The Way It Was

A unseen side of old Hong Kong will be on display for the first time ever at the ‘Hong Kong The Way It Was’ photography exhibition. F11 Foto Museum is celebrating its fifth birthday by displaying the collection of over 130 beautiful black and white photographs of colonial Hong Kong. Guests will fall in love with the city through the lens of famous Dutch photographer, Ed van der Elsken, with this exclusive series of his famous works never shown to the public before.

The photographs show Elksen’s love of Hong Kong, which he described as the “prettiest of harbour cities” during his round-the-world photography trip. Hong Kong’s people, buildings and way of life between 1959 and 1960 are showcased in this highly anticipated collection. Gritty, candid photography captures the essence of the city and its forgotten past, letting guests step back in time and discover a hidden side of Hong Kong.

The ‘Hong Kong The Way It Was’ exhibition will be on display at F11 Foto Museum, 11 Yuka Sau Street, Happy Valley until February 28 2020. Visitors can be inspired by historic Hong Kong with public viewings of the collection from 2pm-7pm Tuesdays to Sundays and tickets going for just $100.

After the exhibition, head to ABOVE by Komune for sundown drinks and capture the view of Hong Kong.
