Hong Kong WinterFest: Lights, Trees & Harbour Moments from Central

Hong Kong WinterFest is Hong Kong’s citywide holiday programme that turns Central into a festive hub.
Running from 14 November 2025 to 4 January 2026, this year the heart of the action is Statue Square Gardens in Central. A 20-metre Christmas tree anchors Christmas Town, streets around Chater Road shimmer as Starlight Boulevard, and a new Immersive Light Show plays on the Central skyline each night, all an easy stroll from the harbourfront.
Where to see Hong Kong Christmas lights
Christmas Town at Statue Square Gardens
The city’s main tree and toy-themed decorations live here in North and South Squares. From 28 November, a Christmas Market of 12 chalets adds festive snacks, gifts and workshops. Opening hours are:
• 14 Nov: 8:00pm – 11:30pm
• 15 Nov – 21 Dec: Mon – Fri 4:00pm – 11:30pm; Sat – Sun 11:00am -11:30pm
• 22 Dec – 4 Jan: 11:00am – 11:30pm (24 – 25 Dec extended to 1:00am next day).
Entry is free, with the last admission is 30 minutes before closing.
Immersive Light Show in Central
Landmark buildings (including Bank of China Tower, HSBC Main Building, Jardine/Prince’s/Standard Chartered, City Hall High Block and more) run a synced festive light sequence every 30 minutes from 7:30 – 10:30pm, best viewed from Statue Square South.
Starlight Boulevard
Chater Road is dressed with lights and an illuminated footbridge by Chater House, linking through to LANDMARK’s “Noëlia” installation, an easy, walkable loop that pairs perfectly with Christmas Town and the harbourfront.
Symphony of Lights vs Immersive Light Show
A Symphony of Lights (SoL) is the nightly harbour show at 8:00pm year-round, while the Immersive Light Show is the Central cluster’s half-hourly sequence between 7:30pm – 10:30pm. Plan to catch SoL at 8:00pm, then Immersive at 8:30pm or 9:00pm as you wander back through Central.
The best free vantage points on the Island side are Central Harbourfront Promenade (IFC to the Star Ferry) for wide views across to Tsim Sha Tsui, and Piers 7-9 for 180-degree perspectives and great water reflections.
The HKMA Information Centre observation deck on 55/F, Two IFC is daytime only, so it’s not suitable for the 8pm show. The IFC mall podium rooftop garden is typically open during mall hours for elevated pre-dusk views.
A simple one-evening route (all on foot from Central)
Think of this as the no-faff loop with minimal backtracking and maximum sparkle.
Start indoors with LANDMARK’s atrium centerpiece, spill onto Starlight Boulevard, time Christmas Town at Statue Square for blue hour, then glide to the harbourfront rails for the 8:00 pm Symphony of Lights.
If you fancy a moving panorama, add a quick Star Ferry hop to Tsim Sha Tsui for skyline shots, then ferry back and finish at Statue Square South to catch the Immersive Light Show on the half-hour.
Practical WinterFest tips
- Go on weeknights for space around the tree, market and railings on the promenade.
- Layer up. December evenings are comfortable but breezy by the water.
- Time it well. Blue hour at Christmas Town, 8:00pm at the promenade/piers for SoL, then back to Statue Square South for Immersive on the half-hour.
- Walking is an ideal way to get around, with Central and Hong Kong MTR stations are close if you need to hop elsewhere quickly.
Nearby seasonal extra: AIA Carnival
From 22 December 2025, the AIA Carnival returns to the Central Harbourfront with rides, games and food, a fun add-on if you’re in town over the Festive period. It’s separate from WinterFest but literally next door to the promenade.
Your festive base: Ovolo Central
If you want to live inside the lights, Ovolo Central Hotel offers boutique luxury accommodation moments from Statue Square’s Christmas Town, the harbour promenade, LANDMARK, and the Star Ferry so you can dip in and out of WinterFest without wrestling cross-harbour transport or long rides at peak times.
