5 Emerging Hong Kong Fashion Designers
Hong Kong’s local fashion design scene is having a trailblazing moment. With dedicated retail arenas such as PMQ, multi-brand stores Konzepp and Lane Crawford, and platforms like Fashion Farm Foundation that are solely dedicated to supporting and showcasing new designers, it’s easier than ever to support the home team this season. We highlight just five emerging fashion designers from the plethora of local designers out there.
Harrison Wong
After a decade in the fashion industry designing for catwalk collections from New York to Shanghai, Harrison Wong founded his eponymous menswear line here in Hong Kong. Wong’s menswear apparel and accessories collections are right on point for an urban cosmopolitan wardrobe and feature understated luxe design details all in a sophisticated monotone colour palette.
Kenaxleung
Local design talent Ka-kin Leung may have only recently launched his label kenaxleung back in 2012, but his fan base rivals that of any established designer – think local celebrities such as Eason Chan, Anthony Wong and Kay Tse. Combining innovative materials with exquisite print designs has become Leung’s calling card, and with womenswear, menswear and eyewear collections, there’s something for every fashionista here.
TWS
Based out of Hong Kong, TwS’s design ethos is to ‘show the world from inside out’ but their outer layers are definitely turning heads. Designer Maria Mak’s graduate collections garnered international acclaim so it’s no surprise the designer would go on to found her own successful womenswear and lingerie line, TwS. The womenswear line comprises graphic silhouettes with a fun playful touch to traditional items, perfect for a fashion forward wardrobe.
Methodology
Designer Glori Tsui is the brainchild behind local sustainable womenswear label Methodology. Drawing on her background in illustration and Cubism inspiration, Tsui’s signature design ethos is to create transformable designs that can be worn time after time. Tsui’s garments are all designed to be taken apart and transformed into a completely new item, giving garments a second lease of life.
Sketcharound
Founded by internationally experienced design duo Priscilla and Kan, Sketcharound designs both womens and menswear, and prides itself on creating unisex practical pieces. The brand’s contemporary take on tailoring sees loosely tailored items with trendy design details, while its luxe loungewear pieces are great for this season’s key trend of sport luxe.
So whether looking for a few key pieces to update your wardrobe or wanting to bring a piece of Hong Kong back home, look to Hong Kong’s emerging and exciting designers for an extra Chinese charm.
