Before he spills any wild tales from the GM’s chair, we thought we’d flip the mic and get to know the man behind the name. Daniel Sprange has just landed at Ovolo The Valley in Brisbane. Let’s hear what he is all about, directly from the horse’s mouth…
- Tell us about yourself in one sentence.
I’m a family man that is passionate about hospitality, health and Cryptocurrency
- What is something you always have stocked in your fridge?
Protein Shakes!
- What attracted you to wanting to work in the hospitality industry?
When I first considered working in hospitality, I was simply looking for a job and a way to find my feet. However, as I gained experience, I began to truly understand what the industry is all about. I discovered a genuine sense of fulfillment in providing excellent customer service, and I found real happiness in those moments when I could make someone’s day a little brighter.
- In your opinion what is the difference between service and hospitality?
Service focuses on efficiently completing tasks to meet guests’ needs, while hospitality goes beyond that by creating warm, personal connections that make guests feel valued and welcome.
- What are you most excited about when it comes to Ovolo The Valley?
It’s a brand that truly stands out in the industry for its unique personality and innovative approach. I’ve always wanted to work for a company that aligns with my values, offers an exceptional product, and fosters an amazing workplace culture. Ovolo The Valley embodies all of these qualities, and I’m genuinely enthusiastic about being part of a team that’s passionate about delivering memorable experiences and doing things differently.
- What is something you are nervous about when it comes to Ovolo The Valley?
I’d say I find a mix of excitement and nerves when starting at a new property. I’m probably most nervous about meeting a completely new team and getting to know everyone, as well as learning all the new systems and processes. But I see these challenges as great opportunities to get in start asking questions, which allows me to break that ice and get to know the team.
- What is one of you fondest memories you will never forget from your experience working in hospitality?
Number one for me would have to be the memories you make with your colleagues along the way—there are honestly too many to mention. But one guest experience that really stands out was when I was working as a Duty Manager at the front desk. We had a bridal party checking in, getting ready for the ceremony, and waiting for a cab that just wasn’t coming (this was before Uber!). The bride was getting really stressed because she didn’t want to keep her groom waiting, and you could feel the tension rising. I decided to offer to drive them to the ceremony myself. They were over the moon, and I managed to get them there on time. They all gave me big hugs and thanked me, and the next day, the newlyweds came back to see me at work with a gift, telling me how much it meant to them in that moment. It’s memories like that—making a real difference for someone—that stick with you.

- If you could win any award what would it be?
Honestly, I’ve never really set out with the goal of winning a specific award. For me, it’s more about setting meaningful goals in both my work and personal life and striving to achieve them. If that dedication leads to recognition or an award, that’s a wonderful bonus. What I truly find rewarding is sharing my knowledge with my team, supporting their growth, and helping them become the best version of themselves. That sense of contribution and seeing others succeed is what brings me the most satisfaction.
