Potts Point’s best eateries – Vegan tasting menus to tasty Japanese ramen soups

Julia Gralberg

Potts Point, situated only a stone’s throw away from Kings Cross, used to be a place of brothels and seedy bars but has over the last decade reclaimed its legacy.

The grandeur of the suburb’s 1920’s art-deco architecture gives the neighbourhood a swanky feel and with many of its restaurants and bars adhering to the roaring twenties Potts Point is sometimes referred to as ‘Sydney’s Manhattan’.

With the many eateries as well as buzzing weekend markets where locals and visitors can botanise among local produce including freshly picked fruit, organic eggs and French pastries, the stylish suburb is now regarded as a food destination in itself.

From noodles to burgers – this is where to have a bite or two when in the colourful neighbourhood.

Wok & Noodles

This hidden Japanese hole in a wall restaurant tucked away in the laneways, only 2 minutes walk from Kings Cross, might be one of Sydney’s best-kept secrets.

Popular for takeaway there is also an option to dine in with a few tables and stools outside for those who are looking for the complete O-san experience.

The 11 ramen soups on the menu are all ridiculously good. Prepared for over 17 hours, Hokkaido Miso Ramen is one of the most popular soups with its rich bone broth topped with an egg and a slice of pork.

Make sure you try the gyoza (vegetarian or pork) which comes in a serving of three for $5.

Wok & Noodles is open daily until 9 pm.

The Butler

From Victoria street, it’s next to impossible to know that this bar and restaurant benefits from one of Sydney’s most spectacular views. Take the stairs down from street level to the dining area which leads out to a magnificent terrace overlooking Sydney’s skyline.

Some might claim it’s a tall order to be able to serve up food and drinks as good as the view, however, The Butler scores equally as high when it comes to their Ibero-Amercian dishes, innovative cocktails and outstanding service.

Perfect for special celebrations the menu consists of small and large dishes to share including baked barramundi, slow cooked pork belly and octopus with burnt apple.

The cocktail menu is pretty neat too!

Yellow

Vegetarians rejoice!

Previously an art gallery, this yellow terrace situated on Macleay street in the heart of Potts Point experiments with vegetarian and vegan contemporary food.

Popular among the hip and trendy locals, Yellow is perhaps most famous for their weekend brunches which are a tasty and elaborate affair. Think ‘Poached Eggs + Kohlrabi + Mushrooms + Vegetable Broth’ and ‘Corn Custard + Miso-Koji Creamed Corn + Poached Egg’.

To celebrate the plant-based diet a five and a seven-course Vegan tasting menu is available during dinner service which is served together with matching wines.
