A Quiet Note from the Wharf in the Autumnal Sun

There’s something about this building that stays with you. Maybe it’s the way the old timber exhales in the morning, or how the light catches beams that have stood here longer than most of Sydney’s skyline. Working inside Ovolo Sydney, set within the largest timber‑piled building in the world, means becoming part of a story that started long before any of us arrived.

Every morning, before the working day starts, I take the same walk — the full length of the wharf, about 400 metres each way — just to let the day settle in. I hear the tropical birds calling out from the Royal Botanic Gardens. I see the early swimmers cutting laps at the Andrew “Boy” Charlton Pool. I hear the navy running drills on the vessels moored along the pier, their voices carrying across the water. And somewhere in that mix of sound and stillness, I count my blessings.

I’m grateful to work for Ovolo — a family‑owned company with heart — and to represent this remarkable building. The gravity of the role is never lost on me. This place has evolved, shifted, reinvented itself more than once, and now we’re standing at the edge of something bigger — a full repositioning, a genuine new birth of Ovolo Sydney. Not a refresh. Not a seasonal update. A re‑imagining of who we are and how we show up for this city.

And the best part is being one piece of a team stepping into that next chapter together. Proud to contribute. Proud to witness it. Proud to be part of the journey as it unfolds.

There’s a feeling in the air — the kind that only arrives before a big moment.

The building feels it.

The team feels it.

We all feel it.

This is where the story turns.

And it’s a privilege to be here for it.
