Melbourne cityscape

As we enter April the Autumn period is firmly upon us, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to slow down and hibernate! The mild months across Australia are a perfect time to get out and explore what the country has to offer in the world of arts, culture and events. And there’s one city that’s setting the bar this season: Melbourne.

Melbourne has already had a massive March and now the city is set to back it up with an equally awesome April and May, with some of the best major events on show over the next two months.

Here are the top five activities to check out when you’re visiting Melbourne this Autumn:

Melbourne Food & Wine Festival

29 March – 9 April 2022

The foodie festival favourite returns this Autumn, and the 2022 program will launch with the World’s Longest Lunch and Brunch at the Treasury Gardens. The festival will also include epic activities ranging from a family-friendly pasta fiesta and a celebration of the hot chip to a rock ’n’ roll showcase of plant-based eating and drinking, plus guest-chef series featuring some of the most exciting talent in Australia.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival

30 March – 24 April 2022

The lights of Melbourne shine a little bit brighter when the Melbourne International Comedy Festival takes over town. This has something to tickle everybody’s funny bone with free family entertainment, world-class special events, trail-blazing solo shows and late-night fun.

16 March – 31 July 2022

The award-winning musical is running all the way until August, and this is one event not to miss out on! Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, HAMILTON has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre.

Formula 1® Heineken® Australian Grand Prix

7 – 10 April 2022

Some say the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix is more than a race – it’s a lifestyle! Get ready to Live Fast at Melbourne’s most exciting world-class sporting spectacular. Be part of the excitement and experience the heart-pumping adrenaline that can only be found at Formula 1®.

QUEER – National Gallery of Victoria

18 March – 5 June 2022

QUEER shines a light on the NGV Collection to examine and reveal the queer stories works of art can tell. This exhibition of works from the NGV Collection spans historical eras and explores queerness as an expression of sexuality and gender, a political movement, a sensibility, and as an attitude that defies fixed definition.
