Cocktails in Hong Kong: Hindu Mythology Inspires VEDA’s New Menu
Central may be famous for its happy hours and plethora of cocktail bars, but for something truly unique, this is one stop on your Hong Kong bar crawl that you won’t want to miss.
Contemporary Indian vegetarian restaurant, VEDA, launched an all-new exquisite cocktail selection inspired by Hindu mythology, on cocktail connoisseurs’ favourite day of the year, World Cocktail Day. The exclusive Hong Kong bar menu features ten irresistible cocktails priced at HK$108, and the tipples promise to suit all taste buds with three unique cocktails designed by two-time Bacardi Grand Prix National bartender award champion, and founder of The Wise King, Sandeep Kumar.
The Chai Martini is an elevated and contemporary-Indian take on the classic Espresso Martini. The vodka-based concoction has been infused with Indian spices such as cardamom, cinnamon and ginger, giving it a warming and slightly sweet mouth feel and finished off with creamy egg whites. Hong Kong bar-hoppers with a delicate palate will adore The Pink Lady, sweet in appearance and taste. The blush-coloured tipple is feminine and light-bodied, with flavours of lychee and rose shining through with every sip.
Cocktail lovers with more robust palates can opt for A Moon and A Sun, a masculine concoction that blends whiskey and cold brew coffee together with chai-infused vermouth, expertly mixed to create the perfect digestif for the Hong Kong night owls.
Guzman Vereda, F&B Area Manager for Hong Kong noted, “A great deal of research has been conducted by our team under my lead to bring forward unique and special myths, which may not be as commonly known. Veda, which originates from the Sanskrit word “vid” meaning “to know”, represents knowledge and wisdom, and this cocktail menu is an extension of that”.
Sandeep Hathiramani, owner of the Wise King and multi-winner of Asia’s and World’s Best Bars, has over 20 years of experience in crafting cocktails and has taken inspiration from the colours of the Indian flag to create his very own signature cocktails titled Courage, Peace and Growth.
“I took inspiration from the colours and symbolism behind the national flag of India. I wanted to pay tribute to my Indian heritage as well as the signature ingredients, such as saffron, spinach, carrot, and pineapple, which I don’t think people will expect to find on a cocktail menu. Each cocktail is unique in flavour and texture and is designed to be consumed with VEDA’s vibrant vegetarian dishes”. – Sandeep Kumar.
Without a doubt, Veda is giving some of Hong Kong’s best cocktail bars a run for their money. Venture to Central and join VEDA‘s daily happy hour in Hong Kong with signature cocktails and classics served between 3 and 7 pm.
