Melbourne’s grandest week of racing returns to Flemington.
Every November, Melbourne slows down to watch a single race. The Melbourne Cup Carnival returns to Flemington Racecourse from Saturday 31 October to Saturday 7 November 2026, and for four race days the city dresses up, studies the form guide and leans in for the thunder of hooves down the straight.
Beyond the main event, each day has a character of its own. Howden Victoria Derby Day keeps things sharp in black and white, Crown Oaks Day turns to florals and the finest fillies, and TAB Champions Stakes Day closes the carnival on a relaxed, family-friendly note. In between, there’s trackside fashion, champagne in the Birdcage, and the annual showcase of hats that appear to defy gravity.
A week of early starts and late finishes calls for somewhere to land softly. Somewhere close enough to the action, yet far enough away to switch off.
