5 places you wouldn’t believe are in Hong Kong

Pictures of Hong Kong’s concrete skyline crowd the internet in a ‘in your face’ fashion. So I forgive you for thinking thats all it has to offer. But look much closer, through the skyscrapers, around the flashing lights and towards the mountains and you will see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. You really wouldn’t believe (if you believe the google search results for HK) that these places are just a stones through away from the congested city:
1. Ping Nam Stream, Fanling
How to get there: Take the MTR to Fanling station on the Blue line (about 30 minutes from Red line Mong Kok East) Exit A2. Take KMB bus 78k (if you don’t want to have to call the stop) or green minibus 56k. (check out here for more bus info). 25 minutes ride to destination.Get off at 南涌 NAM CHUNG. From there take the first right (Luk Keng road). From this point, you are about 35 minutes walk away from the stream. Continue walking down the road until you come to the entrance of the ‘Wilson trail’ (all clearly sign posted)
2. Dragons Back
How to get there: From MTR Shau Kei Wan Station, Exit A3, take bus 9 from Shau Kei Wan bus terminus to To Tei Wan on Shek O Road. The entrance to the hike is on Shek O Road near To Tei Wan village.
3. Big Buddha
How to get there: MTR Tung Chung Station Exit B, then take Ngong Ping Cable Car, which takes around 25 minutes. Then walk for around 10 minutes to the Monastery.
4. Shing Mun Reservoir Hike
Getting There: Pick up a taxi from Tai Wai MTR station and get onto the old Tai Po Road. Follow the signs for the Po Fook Memorial Hall, and then take the road that goes past the crematorium on your left. Keep going until you see the reservoir.
5. High Island view Sai Kung
How to get there: Take bus no. 94 at Sai Kung Market or no. 96R at Diamond Hill MTR station (service on weekends and public holidays only). Get off after Pak Tam Chung and walk along Tai Mong Tsai Road to the junction ahead. Turn into Man Yee Road of Sai Kung on the right and walk on for about 9 km for the High Island Reservoir East Dam, the starting point of High Island Geo Trail.
