Verve takes you on a journey where art and music come together.
Australia’s top performers present this three-piece showcase on an electrifying stage set up by Jon Buswell. Jon is specialised in setting up stages for the entertainment and performing arts industry. A known Lighting Designer in Australia, New Zealand and occasionally works in larger scale events and television.
The show begins with Alice Topp’s Aurum which first premiered in 2018. Her work is inspired by the Japanese art ‘kintsugi’ – repairing cracked pottery with precious metals – fitting for a work which explores damage, healing and the beauty of our flaws. To give you a peek for what you’re in for, imagine, a reflective golden floor combined with burnished light.
If you miss Aurumat Verve, this acclaimed work will have its New York premiere at the Joyce Theatre in May.
The show continues with Stephen Baynes’ Constant Variants. Taking on Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Themewith delicacy and grace, dancers recreate the mesmerising beauty of Renaissance paintings.
And all shows must end with a bang right? Oh, Verve does not disappoint.The show concludes with the Australian Ballet’s 2015 contemporary smash, Tim Harbour’sFiligree and Shadow. As a former dancer of the Australian Ballet, Tim knows his stuff. Minimalistic set, designed by Sydney architect Kelvin Ho, contrasted against the drama and speed of intricate choreography., paired with an electronic score by German duo 48nord.
