Women in Vogue – Celebrating 60 Years

COME ON, VOGUE. But not like Madonna told you. The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) is doing things a bit differently to Madge; from Friday 11 October until Sunday 24 November, the NPG will be home to Women in Vogue. The exhibition showcases 60 years of the Vogue Australia archived together with a special tribute to some remarkable Aussie women who have featured in the pages of Vogue. We’re talking national treasures like Kylie Minogue and Elle Macpherson and their most iconic portraits.

Take a deep dive into the iconic mag with rare examples of archived magazines on show, from the early decades of publication through to bold photographs of women of the 21st century. Ovolo Nishi will be taking a page of Vogue and will soon be sharing a very exciting announcement, keep the pages turning.

Ovolo’s Head Start Into Award Season…

Beginning the industry award season with a bang, plant-based Alibi Bar was honoured as Tourism Accommodation Australia Awards For Excellence as ‘Bar of the Year’. This prestigious award comes just 16 months after Alibi Bar & Kitchen’s opening within flagship property Ovolo Woolloomooloo propelling us forward with high hopes for the award season! We reckon it’s a nod to our botanical cocktails or new Dirty Greens menu – Think along the lines of Mac ‘n’ Cheese balls made from a mix of house-made vegan cheeses and creams, tacos and Bao Buns using pulled jackfruit in place of pork.

Shining bright on our trophy shelf horizon, 18 Ovolo hotels, restaurants and bars have been announced as finalists in the HM Awards 2019 in 10 of 41 categories, with the winners set to be announced on Friday 6 September.

What Tastes Like Wine But Looks Like Orange?

This harborside block party named Pyrmont Festival.

In celebration of the fresh produce and charm of Orange, Pyrmont welcomes this rural region at Sydney’s harbour edge, putting on a two-day spread of food, wine and art from 28-29 September. With free entry, take a connoisseur’s stroll through the festival sampling cool-climate vintages, discussing grape varietals and grazing on gourmet snacks, as you explore more than 100 stalls of regional produce and local purveyors from 11am till 5pm each day.

A full feasting program is underway for Pyrmont’s finest resident restaurants to host a series of wine tastings and special dinners from 20 September till 6 October. Keep an eye out here for more updates on this year’s Pyrmont Festival!

How Many Blooms Does It Take To Welcome Spring In Australia?

We say at least a million! It’s that time of the year when Canberra’s concrete playground flourishes for Floriade! Each year, visitors flock to the nation’s capital to experience Australia’s biggest celebration of spring, showcasing over one million beautiful blooms to announce that spring has sprung.

With free entry, celebrate Floriade on 14th of September 9.30am-5.30pm in its 32nd year. From 3-6 October, NightFest will illuminate Floriade as the sun sets over Lake Burley Griffin for an evening of food, entertainment and more surrounded by blooming bulbs.

The Dragon is on Fire

Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important fests in Hong Kong as it’s a celebration of family. In Hong Kong, Mid-Autumn festival is more than just mooncakes and lanterns. Tai Hang residents have begun doing a fire dragon dance since the 19th century in order to get rid of bad luck and disease. Nowadays, it has become a festive tradition in Tai Hang area. Around 300 performers present a 67-metre dragon with 72,000 incense sticks during those three moon-fuelled days.This festival can’t be found anywhere else in the world, don’t miss the opportunity to experience this intangible cultural heritage which is listed on China’ national list.

Matilda Comes to Hong Kong

3 Friends & 6 Hands

3 friends and 6 hands work together in celebration for the 1st anniversary of Te Quiero Mucho! On September 18th, two culinary masterminds – Chef Alfonso (Te Quiero Mucho) and Chef Asher (FRANCIS) – come together with the award-winning mixologist Jay Khan (COA) to create a one-of-a-kind gastronomic experience for our Hong Kong foodies. The collaborative 4-course menu features fusion creations drawing from the fiery spices of Guadalajara, Mexico and the distinctive, Middle Eastern flavours of Tel Aviv, evoking memories of their childhood spent in their hometowns. The agave spirits expert and the founder of the Mexican cocktail bar COA, Jay Khan will pair 2 delightful artisanal cocktails to elevate the bespoke dining experience.
